Wow. What is happening? I remember when mountain biking took the world by storm. That was amazing but it still seemed underground to a certian degree. People were riding but it was a core percentage that was driving the bus. Today, the two wheeled parade is in full force and it is everywhere. On downtown street adverts, the doctor’s office, television, and just about anywhere you turn the revolution has arrived. And today there is no clear cut choice for bike style either. Road bikes, hybrid bikes, commuter variations, single speeds, bmx in the Olympics and the list goes on. Bikes are back and in a big way.
Bikes are even hipster cool. Some treat them like a status symbol grabbing high end carbon road bikes instead of a golf club or a downhill bike to play with at Whistler. Why? Because you can do amazing things with a bike. You can grab a bottle of wine, ride a mountain pass or do a tour. They require little thinking really and when the rubber meets the road you can just be having fun.
At John Henry Bikes we are pumped up by the spirit of Live to ride. It has so many meanings for so many different people. Bikes are a lifestyle to some and a fitness vehicle for others. In the developing world they are access to a better economic situation and to youngsters in our own backyard they are a first taste of freedom. Live to ride is symbolic of all the work going on in the world. Work like the fight against obesity or poverty. Work like fitness and self esteem building. work like community and health and wellness. The bike is a vehicle of the enlightened. Live to ride is alive and well. But you need to spread the word and support others getting involved on two wheels.
This is truly the year of the bike and let’s hope we can get more people rolling on whatever two wheeled machine they like becasue the world is a better place for having bikes.
Live to ride.
