Is the STP worth doing?
Well, it was all just so smooth. They made it so easy. It wasn't a zoo. The initial questions in your mind simply melt away.
The overwhelming feeling is one of camaraderie.
Yes, this may sound a little corny, but you do sense a great fellowship when you join this ride. There may be 9000 people out there, but they are on the same page. Pulling together. Taking turns on the front. Drafting. Cooperating. There's a great energy that flows out of that dynamic.
The friendliness of the riders is a given. But the unexpected highlight was the friendliness of the locals. Cheering on the riders from the sidewalks. Providing cookies and milk at the rest stops. They made it a community event. My community.
Worth doing? Don't miss it.
