10 Reasons Your Bike Is Your Best Friend at Christmas
Our usual Tuesday trails and tribulations from the wonderful world of cycling brought to you while listening to the fine music of Sublime. With time a constant issue in everyone's life we have devised our top ten list to be brief and poignant. In the immortal words of David Letterman "Here is today's top ten!"
Top Ten Reasons a Bike Is Your Best Friend at Christmas
1. No Need to Drink and Drive - Your bike is the perfect vehicle to get you home from Christmas parties alive. Ride to your party, lock up your rig and be merry knowing that you can get home without police incidence. Be safe this Christmas and if you can't stand up it's a great idea to stay where you are. Don't drive and don't ride. Just stay on the ground for a few hours. (Note: For $10 at almost any garage sale a 'bar bike' can be had so you don't have to risk your main bike out.)
2. Riding Is Free - After having spent all your hard earned money on Christmas presents it's nice to know that your bike is there to be ridden without hidden cost. There to be ridden free of charge.
3. Get Away Vehicle from In-Laws - Just saddle up and give yourself a few hours rest and respite.
4. You Can Eat More - Ride off the eggnog, mince tarts, shortbread, and chocolate. Who needs a personal trainer when you can just rock out the front door and burn off all the Christmas calories?
5. Time Spent with Friends - When you are riding with friends it is your time and that alone during a busy holiday season is worth having a bike.
6. A Cheap Interim Christmas Tree - Throw some lights on and watch the shiny parts reflect and glisten. Presents under your bike, it would be like a dream come true.
7. Always a Parking Spot - The mall is jacked up with a billion people trying to park and in you come, backpack in tow, lock up your trusty steed undercover and directly in front of the main doors. Sweet.
8. The Perfect Sight Seeing Partner - Take your bike out for a holiday mingle. Check out last week's newsletter for some ideas on where to see this year's best light displays.
9. A Bike Doesn't Need a Gift - Your bike is a gift to you. It just sits and waits patiently for you to use it. Every time you ride you are giving yourself a gift of enjoyment, stress relief, and time.
And last but certainly not least we understand a certain North Pole resident has a bike as a back up plan.
10. A Bike Doesn't Need Feeding - It has been a tough economic year at the North Pole so Santa Clause has had to cut back on the Reindeer feedings to save some crinkle. His bike only needs air so don't be surprised if you hear the sound of gears and chains on your rooftop this year rather than those normal hoof clicks.
Have yourself a stress free holiday season.
