Prescribing Exercise Canada has done it again. We have come fourth. How depressing, we're not on the podium again….. Except for this time it is actually a race we want to lose. Yes, I said lose. In a June 1 st article taken from Canada 's national paper, The Globe and Mail , Canada was ranked as the fourth most OBESE country in the world. What on earth is going on? You live in the most beautiful country, with the most liberal laws, a cacophony of physical options, health food and education, and yet here we are coming in a close fourth place on the obesity charts. Well it is certainly time to change. Quick fixes be damned. This country needs wholesale changes and YOU are the avid recreationalists that can help to make our country conscious of the task at hand. It is time to leave a legacy of educated and health caring individuals behind when we are granted exit from this grand planet. A legacy that can only start with YOU.
Hospital beds are literally filled to excess and YOU are paying for huge numbers of people that have just never cared. They didn't have enough time to fit in exercise, healthy eating habits, and they were just too darn concerned about winning the ‘rat race' that they ended up in hospital with one of the slew of problems listed above that are primarily caused by obesity or lack of exercise. Too busy. Now they have all the time in the world lying in bed to think about what they have missed out on and they have lots of money to pay for wheelchairs, elevators in their houses, respirators, and satellite dishes to keep them company. But you still pay for their constant check-ups, pharmaceutical care, and their necessity for hospital care. That seems fair doesn't it? An estimated 80% of all hospital visits can be attributed to ‘lack of personal care'. Can you make a difference in reducing that number and how can you leave a legacy of physical empowerment to the people you touch or know? Saturday, June 13 th in Spanish Banks the 3 rd Annual Crohn's and Colitis Foundation's Heel and Wheel A Thon will wind it's way through beach front paths and the U.B.C. streets all in aid of people that have really received the short straw. Most of these people are outgoing, vibrant, and live life like it should be lived. These people can't do anything to prevent their disease so they do what they can by trying to help cure it for those that may follow in the future. Now that is attempting to leave a legacy.
