'Ladies Only Club'
A ride for women only. Mountain Bike instructor Kelly Owens has teamed with John Henry the Bicycle Man to provide you the utmost in riding club experiences for women only. Monthly prepared rides lead you all over the province and take you to new levels of riding. Experience isn't necessary but smiles are. This club accepts all levels of riders and will be also encompassing training nights, fixing clinics, and maybe even events like fashion shows.
Just want to go for a spin on your favourite 2 wheels? Relax while chatting with a friendly group of women along easy going forest paths? This is the ride for you! Join Sylvia and friends and maybe even stop for a “treat” (pie?) on the way back! There may be a lot of stopping to practice skills along the trail. Novice-level riders are usually interested in improving their technical skills and level of fitness. Forest trails could be in/around the Seymour Demonstration Forest, lower Seymour area and occasionally Burnaby Mountain.
Interested in improving your technical skills and your fitness level? Navigate the challenges of roots, short, steep climbs, small logs and drops while building up your cardio. There may be a lot of stopping to practice skills along the trail. Beginner/Intermediate level riders should be prepared to build their technical skills and level of fitness as the season progresses. Trails may include: Bridal Path, Slippery Canoe (lower Fromme), Lower Griffin, Will’s Way (Seymour) and the lower trails at SFU.
You’re ready to clean that series of drops on Ned’s or at least give it a try, right? You might even try manualling off of that 2 foot ledge on CBC! You’re probably really close to cleaning Nicole’s at SFU. The rides are set at an easy to moderate pace with intermittent stopping for practice. This level would be good for those either just getting into trails like Ned’s or Seventh Secret or for those already comfortable on intermediate level trails. You’ve got a good cardio base and are fine with the climb up Seymour to Ned’s or up the switchbacks to Krinkum Krankum.
You’re already manualling those 2 foot drops that you used to roll or you want to go bigger. Ridin’ the skinnies and ladder lines on Espresso or CBC gives you that rush you’re looking for. You’re hoping you can clean Ladies or Pink Starfish eventually. Depending on the group, there may be a lot of stopping to practice skills along the trail. Advanced level riders should be prepared to build their technical skills and level of fitness as the season progresses. You could shuttle but you’re also fine with climbing up to Ned’s.

Downhill Revenge
The JH Downhill Club is a great place to meet new riding mates, have a weekly organized ride and hopefully the chance to check out some new trails you may not have tried. Above all, we want all riders (yes - you too girls) to have fun and improve your riding skills!
Typically, we like to start the year off to meet the needs of all novice and experienced riders. As Downhill is about fun, adrenalin, and flow, like you we like to try to establish a good pace that is comfortable for all riders. So, we start the season out on some of the easier trails so everyone can have fun and get accustomed to how the club rides work. After the first 4 or 5 rides, we'll pick up the pace a bit and get into some more advanced trails. This should not intimidate, rather it should provide the opportunity for advancement and learning. As valued club members you should never feel pressured. Rides will be catered every second week towards the capabilities of advanced riders and intermediate riders. As there will always be a rider faster and slower than you, this approach will help meet the needs of all the riders and members can pick and choose rides they feel most comfortable with. An example of an "intermediate" ride would be CBC/ Neds or "Wild Cherry and The Roaches". Examples of "advanced rides" would be Fifth Horseman, Ladies Only and CBC/Boogieman. We also try to alternate between Cypress, Fromme and Mt. Seymour every week. Typically you will be riding Fromme more in the middle of summer when the days are longest.
As an added bonus, on select rides, you will be introduced to some of the latest trail building techniques. These will be short stops where members can get a chance hands on to help put back into the trails. Just remember the goals of the ‘Pedals and Pints’ and the DH Club are fun, camaraderie, furthering your skills, and increasing your involvement in the sport.

All Mountain Mania
Technical uphills, fast single track, and wicked camaraderie are all signs that you have witnessed a super Co-ed All Mountain Club Ride.
You definitely find friendship on an uphill. Wicked fun for everybody who likes to ride his or her bike to the top.
This club goes up and down. Trails are similar at times to the Downhill club but progression is measured by your health at the end of the ride not, I repeat, not…the number of broken bones in your body.
Riding paces include the quick and the dirty but are definitely not exclusive to the fittest of the fit crowd. There are more mellow rides, where novice/intermediate riders can strut their stuff. This group is more focused on the grins, smiles and fun of mountain biking, all riders can fit in this group, whether your wear Lycra or baggy shorts, armour or not, clips or flats, anything goes. The object is to start the rides as a group and finish as a group. Denis Goulet and Mike Jordan are the ride leaders and you will find all types of leaders and riders in this club.
The only outcome with a crew like this is fun and laughter. If the right amount of people show up, we will split the group into novice/intermediate and intermediate.
